Communities of Practice
While researching local and
national organizations that support early childhood education I found the
Alachua County Early Childhood Learning Coalition. The Coalition serves about
4000 children in the Alachua County area of Florida, where I currently live.
Their current employment
opportunities include a position called “R&R Parent Support Specialist.
This position sounds amazing! I would be in charge of counseling for parents to
help determine VPK eligibility with a focus on low income families. I would
also provide them with resources and services that are available for their
family.
Additionally, my search took me
to the Early Learning Coalition of the Nature Coast. This is the area where I
currently teach. They serve a large, rural area of Florida. They work to make
sure every child has the opportunity to an early childhood program in their
area. They offer scholarships for low income families and bring together
individual organizations to build a strong community. At this time they do not
post available positions.
Finally, when thinking about
places that I would love to be a part of I could not help but think of Grace
Building Blocks and early learning center in Ocala Florida. I have had the
opportunity to do some observations for course work at this center and love the
environment they have worked so hard to create here. It is a warm welcoming
place where children come to learn from individuals who care about them and
their future. I would love to teach or help develop curriculum for this center.
Hi Whitney,
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you are part of a lot of communities of practice. How does that help you in the classroom as a teacher?
